The music boomed from the ground floor of Deacon Samson’s storey building. The house was meant for tenants, and it had become a routine for the one-week long tenant to wake the entire occupants of the only storey building along Alagbayun Street with her loud songs.
The Master of Ceremony’s voice boomed even in the corridor that led to the Chairman’s office. Favour continued to praise God in her heart. Despite being the queen of persuasion, the chairman agreeing to play according to her plan had been a miracle.
“The award of most dedicated newbie of the year goes to…” he slowed down, increasing the tension in the hall.
While many people had changed their phone ringing tones to “odun nlo sopin o baba rere”, Favour changed hers to “vindicate me oh lord,” an extract from an audio Bible.
She went back to her seat and fiddled with a pen. The director instinct in her told her that the culprit had to return the stolen money and shamefully asked to leave the company. But, her thoughts were going on a different lane.
“Miss Director. I know what you’re up to. Dressing all fancy throughout this week. You should consider stepping down from being a director. That icy feel your appearance used to have isn’t there anymore.”
“Papa. Please. I assure you that she’s with Jesus. If you keep up your relationship with Jesus, I believe you’d meet your Yoruba queen in heaven. Hmmn.”
“I used to say that if you had come as a boy, you would still be the same you. You’re doing so well, you would easily outrun men of your age,” he shifted on his chair. “that hasn’t changed, but in truth, you’re trying way too hard. What point are you trying to prove still?”
Favour tried to dismiss the guilty feelings that beclouded her thoughts and focused on the important things to do.
