THE PLAYLIST CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Mrs Elihana’s thoughts were muddled up. She looked at Bimbo who had placed her head on her shoulder. Not only had her ex-husband’s mistake hurt her, but he had also gone ahead to hurt a younger version of her in more profound ways. If only she had handled things better before the divorce, just maybe. And now, he was trying to do restitution.

She remembered when her son had told her that he had given his life to Jesus barely three months ago. She had been overjoyed and now her ex-husband was a Christian? She should be happy for him but that didn’t happen and she wondered where her Christian virtues had flown off to. Whether she liked it or not, he was now a Christian, an extra point for him. She was going to need days before the Lord to come to terms with the truth and finally forgive him- which was long overdue.

Settling down in the house that Peter had driven them to wasn’t a hard task.

Having explained that they needed to stay in a fortified place and understanding the circumstances surrounding Bimbo, she had agreed. Today was however the fourth day and there was still no news. She thought that it could be a chance for her to get Bimbo to cool off and forgive him.

Two days later and even Bimbo was getting perplexed.

“Why did that man just put us here without any news of him?” she asked.

“Bimbo,” Mrs Elihana called. Bimbo who sat at the dining table removed an ear of her earpiece and sat beside her, looking at the small garden by the window.

“You’ve accepted Jesus, haven’t you?”

“Let’s just say I did.”

“You can’t just assume you did. This is something you have to be sure of, or else, it would be the easiest way the devil would get at you,” she explained.

“Once you start doubting, that’s fertile ground for planting different strange thoughts in your heart,” she continued and Bimbo nodded. She removed the other earpiece to listen. This was looking like it would be a long talk.

“I don’t know why the man is late. You know, I have a business I run and all of that. At least, he should come and we’ll know what to do next. I can’t leave you alone here.”

“I can take care of myself. I’m grateful for all that you’ve done already.”

“No, that’s not the point. I see that both of us have similar issues. We’re yet to forgive this man of his wrongdoings, yet we’re worried for him.” Bimbo nodded in agreement. She had been told about the spying at the police checkpoint.

“You’re even yet to be sure of your salvation. While we wait for the man whom God used to bring us together, why don’t we address these issues?”

Bimbo nodded. She wasn’t used to talking much but she was at her most broken state; anything for God, she was ready.

Femi’s mum drew her close and hugged her tight. She hoped that Bimbo would find peace soon.

The days went by until the tenth day. The days ticked on like the long hand of a clock. While the ladies busied themselves with addressing their personal issues before God, they still hoped to hear something from Femi’s father.

On the eleventh day, Femi’s call came through to his mother.

“Mum, Dad is in a coma at the hospital!” he exclaimed and ended the call.

Bimbo stood from the chair she was sitting on when the call came in, wondering what to do. She twisted her fingers.

“Let’s go.” Mrs Elihana held her by the hand and ran outside with her. When they got downstairs, she remembered that she had not remembered to pick her purse for transport fare and she didn’t even know which hospital they were to go to. She let go of Bimbo’s hand.

“Sit here and wait for me,” she commanded and ran upstairs again.

When she got upstairs, she heard the sound of a car entering the compound. For a moment, she stayed glued to where she was. The house was fortified, so she had been told. She wondered who had gotten into the house.
